Role: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Cranberry Township, PA
Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery and maintains involvement in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products. This position also coordinates activities to evaluate and resolve product or process related problems. The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Vice President of Engineering and is located in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in an environment which encourages teamwork, innovation, trust, and customer inspired motivation;
- Design and develop machines, tools, equipment, and systems with mechanical parts using industry standard practices;
- Develops and documents concepts and ideas for implementation of new and/or improved products;
- Verifies concepts and ideas in the most efficient manner possible using analytical tools and/or concept level prototype testing; documents the process and results of the verification;
- Investigate problems with machinery and suggest and implement solutions;
- Apply engineering processes to the design and manufacture of products to achieve the lowest overall cost and enhance product value to the customer;
- Works independently or within a team to apply basic engineering principles to design and develop mechanical assemblies and associated documentation from general verbal instructions, sketches, or existing models;
- Involved with the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products;
- Works directly with other engineering individuals and manufacturing individuals to resolve mechanical and fabrication issues with new and existing products;
- Assists the sustaining, new product development, and value engineering teams in their activities as needed;
- Develops, directs, participates, and documents lab testing;
- Participates in product teardowns and obtains useable data;
- Provides data necessary to support the sales, marketing, installation, operation and maintenance;
- Other duties as assigned.
Duties and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology (or related field)
- Position typically expects two to ten years of direct/relevant experience based on scope of position
- Knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts, practices, and procedures within the mechanical design field
- Excellent “hands on” mechanical skills with the ability to learn quickly
- Knowledge of mechanical systems such as pumps, motors and gears
- Knowledge of metal fabrication such as weldments, sheet metal fabrication and castings
- Knowledgeable in electrical power and controls
- Proficient in 3D modeling and software; experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD are preferred
- General experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Results-oriented, organized, and the ability to multitask
- Ability to think “outside the box”
- Travel as needed to other locations in execution of assigned tasks
- Must be willing to share ideas within Conair and accept ideas from others
